This workshop is all about the materials and techniques we artists use.

• Learn how to prepare surfaces to work on or tailor your store-bought surfaces. We will stretch canvas and linen, gesso a panel, shellac paper, tone, sand, and much more.
• Learn how paint is made. Oil and egg tempera paint will be made fresh. 
• Learn all about mediums. Oils, alkyds, solvents, varnishes will all be discussed and used.
• Learn how a brush is made and what attributes you're looking for.
• Learn about drawing materials. Vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, graphite, pastel, and many more will be discussed and used.

Being an artist means that you run your own little (hopefully growing) business. Like any business on the rise, you will need a CEO, a CFO, a CTO, PR department, a sales team, and of course a manufacturing plant. These are of course all YOU. But most artists don't address any of the first 5 departments' needs, operating rather as a manufacturing plant only. And like any business that only produced products with no sales team, PR department, or other officials charting the course of this enterprise, they often end up with a warehouse full of unsold goods. Go figure. ;)

This lecture shines a light on simple steps you can take to develop your 'whole business' as an artist.

Simply put, you are invited into Glen's studio to watch him produce a painting. He will lecture and answer audience questions as he goes through his normal painting process. There are no secrets here as you will see Glen draw, mix color, apply paint, and develop the painting throughout the evening. This is sure to be of great benefit to regular students of Glen's who will happily observe him 'practicing what he preaches.'
