This semester-long portfolio level Figure Drawing and Painting class is crafted for ambitious teen artists looking to develop a standout portfolio for college admission. This course offers a rich exploration of the human form, blending classical techniques with modern artistic practices to elevate your skills and creativity.
Over the course of the semester, students will engage with:
Human Anatomy: Study the structure and mechanics of the human body to achieve accurate and dynamic representations.
Gesture Drawing: Practice capturing movement and emotion through quick, expressive sketches that bring figures to life.
Proportions and Structure: Learn to master proportion and spatial relationships to create cohesive and realistic figures.
Color Theory and Application: Explore color mixing, application techniques, and the use of light and shadow to enhance the depth and vibrancy of your work.
Media Exploration: Work with various mediums such as charcoal, graphite, oil paints, and acrylics to discover your preferred techniques and styles.
Composition and Expression: Develop compelling compositions that highlight the narrative and emotional aspects of your figure studies.
Critique and Development: Engage in constructive critiques and feedback sessions to refine your work and develop a critical eye for both your own art and that of your peers.
Students will complete a series of both guided and self-directed projects, resulting in a diverse and polished portfolio that demonstrates their technical proficiency and individual artistic voice. This course not only prepares students for college admissions but also equips them with foundational skills for a future in figure-based art.
