“WHY I VOTE” EXHIBITION

SPECIAL PRE-ELECTION RECEPTION: FRI, NOV 1 7-9PM

Friday the Art-teenth Artists’ Reception: FRI, NOV 15th 6-8pm

This November, we are hosting a very special and timely exhibition.

Countless suffragists and activists from Alice Paul to Fannie Lou Hamer to Dolores Huerta have fought for voting rights since the early 20th century. In acknowledgment of the continued fight for voter equity, the Women’s Caucus for Art of Greater Washington, DC (WCADC) presents our second “Why I Vote” exhibition. WCADC invites all women artists in DC, Maryland, and Virginia to address the issues that compel us to visit the polls. As artists, we capture the essence of our times and this exhibition conveys a collective visual expression of why voting matters now, in the past, and for the future. We acknowledge the ongoing challenges to our democracy, yet we strive for a more perfect union, embracing diverse perspectives through art.

This exhibition at Compass Gallery will be open from October 30 through November 27. We will host TWO artist receptions: a special Pre-Election Reception on Friday, November 1 from 7-9pm -AND- a Meet The Artists Reception is scheduled for Friday, November 15th from 6-8pm. Food and wine available. Open to the public. Our second reception runs in conjunction with Friday The ART-teenth, Kensington’s new hot night for art in conjunction with Girls Who Paint, Adah Rose Gallery, and The Gallery at Chesapeake Framing.

“FOR LOVE OF KENSINGTON” JURIED EXHIBITION

Starting this Labor Day weekend and continuing through the entire month of September, we offer a love letter to Kensington, our gorgeous new home town. For the past 30+ years, the Montgomery Art Association has hosted its Kensington ‘Paint The Town’ Exhibition every Labor Day weekend. One stipulation to exhibiting artists has always been that they needed to produce at least one artwork with Kensington as the subject. Some incredible work has been produced, many of them only seeing the light of day for one weekend. So now we offer this encore exhibition for artworks that take Kensington as their subject. New Kensington works may also be submitted. We love our town!

This exhibition at Compass Gallery will be open from August 31 through September 26. A Meet The Artists Reception is scheduled for Friday, September 13th from 7-9pm. Food and wine available. Open to the public. Running in conjunction with “Friday The ART-teenth,“ Kensington’s new art walk which includes Girls Who Paint, Adah Rose Gallery, The Gallery at Chesapeake Framing, and Ricky Sears Art Studio. We will also be open the entire Labor Day weekend, so after you visit the MAA show, swing on by!
